Thanks to the media bombarding us with information on health we all roughly know what foods are good for us and what aren’t. We may not all be expert nutritionists but I’m sure you know whether a hamburger from your local fast food outfit is good for you or not!
So you know that exercise is good for you, and you know to eat more apples, drink more water and cut back on the cheap ready made meals. But you may not be sure how much weight you need to lose, are you obese or just a little overweight? Do you have high blood pressure? Are you stressed, if so do you realise how badly stressed you are?
Your First Job Is To Find Out The Above Answers
BMI - Working out your BMI using a free BMI calculator is a great start, this will tell you whether you are; underweight, normal weight, overweight or obese. A healthy BMI is 18.5-24.9 so if you are over 24.9 then you need to lose weight.
Blood Pressure - When you next visit your GP ask them if they could check your blood pressure for you, alternatively if you have a monitor at home you can do it yourself. If your level is 140/90 or higher than you have high blood pressure and need to lower your blood pressure.
Stress - You should also find out if you are stressed, many people say they aren’t when they really are. Check out Understanding Stress, an article by helpguide.org which will help you determine whether you are stressed or not.
Your Second Job Is To Act On What You’ve Found
Once you have found out all of the above you can go about getting your health back into shape. It hasn’t cost you any money to find out your BMI, blood pressure or whether you are stressed. There are also lots of free great tools and resources online that you can use to not only monitor your health but get tips and advice from so you are on the right track.
How to Find These Resources
Start by performing searches with keywords related to what you are looking for EG ‘lower blood pressure’, then you will find when you visit one site it has lots of tips as well as links to sites providing other info. Don’t forget to also visit the obvious sites like NHS.uk, and of course have a good look around our site as well!
