So you’ve found out your BMI using our free BMI scale. You can now use the list below to see your level of current body fat. The BMI is a reliable indicator of total body fat, your total body fat is related to the risk of disease and death, so ideally you want to be normal weight, a BMI of 18.5-24.9.

  • Underweight: 18.4 or lower
  • Normal weight: 18.5-24.9
  • Overweight: 25-29.9
  • Obese: 30 or higher

The BMI calculator does have a couple of limitations. It may overestimate the body fat in athletes and other people who have a large muscular build. If you are of a slightly older age it may underestimate your body fat because you have lost some muscle mass. It is worth baring this in mind when monitoring your BMI.
