Last week Britain’s biggest high street chemist, Boots, launched a new ‘energising vitamin supplement’, the supplement is the first time the exclusive form of CoQ10 has been sold on the high street. It is not cheap, costing 60p per pill but Boots claim that it has many health benefits.
Having had a look around a few different health resources it doesn’t seem to be getting a great reception! Here is what Ive found on my virtual travels.
Dcscience reports:
In a press release dated 12 March 2008, they have hit a new low in ethical standards.
MSN produced an article looking at the evidence for and against the supplement and concludes:
Stand back folks – there is no miracle to see here.
The Daily Mail also had an article on the product with input from several doctors with one saying:
It sounds impressive. But the fact is, scientific opinion is divided over the use of CoQ10 supplements, and some experts believe you’d be better off spending your 60p on fresh fruit.
So the product hasn’t got off to a great start, but no doubt that a few TV adverts and big posters in the Boots stores will have them selling so hopefully more details and results will surface in coming months.
