New figures show that Scotland has seen a 20% increase in the number of women having cervical cancer screening – a very positive statistic.
The death of celebrity Jade Goody in March this year has certainly played some part in raising awareness of cervical cancer. Around 900 women die from the disease every year, but chances of survival are much higher if it is detected early.
The figure means that 73% of women have now been tested within the last 3.5 years, very encouraging.
